I show the importance of understanding how anti- Black prejudices are not simply doxastic, and how transforming a world of anti-Black prejudices importantly requires transforming how we engage in processes of world-making and radically rethinking how, in this case, white embodiment must itself be radically transformed.
The phenomenology of race takes seriously the ways in which race, while a social construction, is a lived, embodied phenomenon. Phenomenologist Emily Lee understands race as a meaning system that is fundamentally linked to our collective social horizon. From a phenomenological perspective, race is a lived experience that is constituted through meaning-making processes. It is through these processes, which are historically and socially iterative, that race is manifested through sedimented practices that shape our perceptions, desires, fears and embodied comportments.
