TRANSGENDER GENETICS FACT OR FANTASY?
As it happened, those who regarded genetic factors as determinative and traits as binary came to prevail in the field. The notion that traits might exist along a spectrum and be shaped by multiple influences was considered unconvincing and remained eclipsed for many years.
W hen he observed that wrinkled or smooth peas, green or yellow peas, and tall or short pea plants all behaved as binary
traits, Gregor Mendel (1822– 1884) deduced that a discrete causative agent must possess immutable integrity and exist in two alternative forms, one corresponding to each of the traits in question. It was from this insight that the science of genetics emerged.
